Furnace Maintenance

The quality of the air we breathe influences our general health and well-being. Dust and other airborne particles can cause a variety of ailments ranging from simple allergic reactions to more complicated respiratory diseases. Maintaining clean furnace filters in your home will help to increase the purity of the air you breathe and reduce the likelihood of suffering a medical condition.

Furnace filters should be changed once a month during the cold times of the year and at least once a season during the rest of the year.
The use of a clean furnace filter will help your furnace to run more efficiently decreasing electricity bills and the frequency of service calls to HVACs technicians.
Please remember to turn the power off on your furnace before changing the filter.

It is also important to remember to change your furnace filter or have a service done on your furnace (depending on when it was last done) prior to having a home inspection done on your home.  There is nothing worse then a home inspector opening the furance and almost passing out from dust and debris that comes out of the furance.

The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation has conducted a study measuring the comparative effectiveness of different furnace filters. A copy can be obtained by calling C.M.H.C at 1-800-668-2642 or https://www03.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/catalog/productDetail.cfm?cat=123&itm=58&lang=en&fr=1395157857853
